Latvia was all around amazing and beautiful, from what I saw in my four short days. The first day I spent in Riga, which was so beautiful that I could have spent the entire four days just exploring the city. I chose to take the train to the Jūrmala coast on my second day. Majori is the central resort town of the Jūrmala beach on the Gulf of Riga. At 21 miles long, it’s claimed to be the longest beach in Northern Europe (it seemed to go on forever, so I won’t argue).
I was really surprised how shallow the coastal waters were and how far out I could walk out and still only be covered up to my ankles. Aside from the beach, there were plenty of other things to see in Majori. The Dzintari Forest Park was right off the beach and was full of different leisure activities that were connected by a wooden boardwalk. A walk down the pedestrian Jomas street was also a must, to see the cute cafes and shops. The town is also full of beautiful old wooden houses from the 19th and early 20th century. There’s a lot to see and do here and it was definitely worth the short trip from Riga.
