I wasn't really sure what to expect on my 2 day stop in Helsinki last August, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I'd actually skipped over it in 2018 when I was in Tallinn and had the opportunity to visit by a short ferry ride. I decided to spend all 3 days in Tallinn, assuming I'd probably not enjoy Helsinki as much. I had plenty to do all that time in Tallinn, but I kept thinking about what I possibly missed by not venturing to Finland for one of those days.
I only allotted myself 2 days to see Helsinki (which turned into about a day and a half after travel time). I spent my first afternoon and evening meandering around and sampling a Korvapuusti (a giant Finnish cinnamon roll) at Café Esplanad. My second day I spent the morning discovering grocery stores and bus stations in shopping centers were apparently a thing. I don't normally like to waste precious exploration time in shopping centers, but I was on a hunt for something that I was unsuccessful in finding.
The rest of my second day was spent in awe of the beauty that is Suomenlinna Sea Fortress (and tasting some more wonderful treats at the local Cafe Piper). It was a good, relaxing day, which I needed, but I didn't have time to do much else in Helsinki, aside from dinner and a stroll through some cute shops before needing to turn in for my morning flight to Vilnius. Turns out I wanted more Finland, more Korvapuusti, and more Scandinavian beaches, which means one day I have to go back.
